WEST MILFORD — Mayor Bettina Bieri will be unopposed in the June 2 primary. She and her Democratic running mates for council, former councilwoman CarlLa Horton and last year's candidate Melissa Brown-Blauer, will not face challengers until the Republicans in the general election in November. Just who those Republicans will be won’t be decided until June 2.
Former councilman Mike Ramaglia got the nod from the Passaic County Regular Republican Organization as the mayoral candidate. He will face Councilman Lou Signorino, who is running on the “Putting West Milford First” line.
Ramaglia’s runningmates are Councilwoman Vivienne Erk and former councilman Phil Weisbecker. Signorino is teaming up Councilman Mike Hensley and Tim Wagner.
County committee to be selected
This year, the entire Republican County Committee will be chosen. Both PCRRO and “Putting West Milford First” are running full slates of county committee candidates.
The Republicans have had primaries each year for several years. Three years ago, Hensley and Erk ran together on the Republican ticket in the primary, but ran separate campaigns by the time the November election came around. It didn't matter; they both won their council seats.
In 2013, Signorino ran a primary in order to get reelected. He paired up with Michele Dale, a newcomer to politics but a well-known, active volunteer in the Upper Greenwood Lake Ambulance Squad. They defeated John Struble and Dan Poeschl to capture the Republican nomination and beat their Democratic opponents in November.
