Monday is Memorial Day, the federal holiday when we remember the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.

West Milford will honor its fallen heroes and all others who made the ultimate sacrifice on Monday morning at 10 a.m. with a ceremony at Veteran’s Park, in front of town hall, on Union Valley Road. A parade will follow from the ceremony site, to Marshall Hill Road to Lincoln Ave., ending at the Frank M. Sell American Legion Post.

All are invited to come out.
The holiday is celebrated each year on the final Monday of May. It was formerly known as Decoration Day, originating after the Civil War to honor both the Union and Confederate soldiers who died in the war.

By the 20th century, Memorial Day was extended to honor all Americans who had died while in the military service.

Roads closed
Roads along the parade route will be closed from 10 a.m. until approximately 1:30 p.m. They include Union Valley Road, from Macopin to Marshall Hill; Marshall Hill Road to Lincoln Ave.; Lincoln Ave. from Marshall Hill to Greenwood Lake Turnpike.
