County clerk providing vet ID cards

| 17 Jul 2014 | 11:45

Passaic County Clerk Kristin M. Corrado has announced the August schedule for Veterans Identification Cards. The Passaic County Clerk’s Office and Department of Veterans’ Affairs have partnered to provide Passaic County Veterans with a free photo ID card. These cards identify Veterans who served in our armed forces and received an honorable discharge following their military service. The ID card gives veterans the ability to receive discounts or benefits offered by many local stores and restaurants.

In order to obtain an identification card, a veteran will need to present a copy of their DD-214 Military Discharge Record along with proof of identity and domicile in Passaic County. A copy of the DD-214 (discharge papers) will be registered with the Passaic County Clerk’s Office. Veterans may apply for their ID card at the County Clerk’s main office at 401 Grand Street in Paterson or at the satellite office located at 1237 Ringwood Avenue in Haskell (Wanaque). Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Veterans may also obtain an ID card at one of the outreach events scheduled in August (see sidebar).

Veterans residing in Passaic County may also apply for their Veteran Peddler’s License. A copy of the DD-214 is required. There is no fee for the peddler’s license. Applications are submitted to the New Jersey Department of Defense for approval.

To schedule an outreach event or have any questions, please contact our office at 973-225-3690.

    Donations for care packages accepted

In support of the men and women who serve our Country, the Passaic County Clerk’s Office will be accepting donations at all of the outreach events. They are collecting food and personal care items for summer packages to be sent to the troops that are currently deployed overseas. Donations will be accepted through Aug. 8 at the office and all outreach locations on behalf of the Blue Star Mothers North Jersey Chapter 3. Care packages will also be sent to soldiers in military hospitals.

Items to donate include Chapstick, foot powder, eye drops, bug spray, granola bars, hard candy, gum and dried fruit. No large size items are accepted since items must be able to fit in pockets or stored in small areas. A more detailed list of items needed is available at the Passaic County website at http://www.passaiccountynj.org/DocumentCenter/View/4245 or contact Corrado at 973-881-4788 for more information.
