The West Milford Community Services and Recreation Department is offering two Mad Science workshops this summer. The five-day workshops will be held the week of Aug. 24 through 28 at Hillcrest Community Center. The workshops are designed for children entering grades kindergarten through 6.

In the “Mad Science: pH-unky Physics!” workshop, kids take a ride on the Matter Train. They will explore matter and the atomic building blocks of everything, conduct crazy cool chemistry experiments with a mad scientist, and explore the parts of the lab. Learn about all of the amazing tools of the scientist and the way they conduct experiments. Campers will create their own mini-labs and take home awesome activities each day.

This workshop runs from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the cost is $170 for West Milford residents. Non-residents add $10.

In the “Mad Science: Radical Reactions!” workshop, get down and dirty with radical reactions. Create crazy, cool concoctions that bubble, pop, and foam. Kids will use the different tools of a scientist as they explore the reactions of matter by using acids and bases, and heat things up. Also explore the amazing properties of dry ice and sublimation as you cool things down to -109 degrees. Brrr. Campers will concoct their own creations such as Newtonian Mud and Slippery Slime.

This workshop runs from 1 to 4 p.m., and the cost is $170 per camper.

If a child attends both workshops, supervision during lunch (which the child brings) will be provided. The cost for the full day registration (both workshops) is $300, a discount of $40 if you sign up for both at the same time ($20 extra for non-residents).

Registration forms are available at the Community Services and Recreation Office, or register online at www.westmilford.org. For more information, call the Recreation Department at 973-728-2860.
