December in the New Jersey Botanical Garden is a month is a time of glitter and greenery. Visitors are invited to stop by to enjoy any of the following free events. The Botanical Garden, located on Morris Road, Ringwood, New Jersey, is open every day, and admission is always free.

Holiday Open House
Dec. 2-5: Holiday Open House at Skylands Manor. The Manor House will be decorated for this year’s theme of “An Artist’s Holiday,” a glittering, extravagant display of imagination and delight.
· Daytime tours Dec. 2-5 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. $10/adults, $8/seniors, $5/children 6-12; under 6 free.
· Group tours Dec. 2-3 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Call 973-962-9534 for details.
· Evening Reception Dec. 4 from 6 to 8 p.m. Wine and light refreshments. Reservations required. $45/members; $50/guests and non-members.

Family Winter Hike
Dec. 19: Family Winter Hike. 1 p.m. An easy, child-friendly hike in the Garden’s woodlands. Learn a bit about the plants and animals around you in a hike designed to fit the group. Wear sturdy shoes, meet at the Carriage House.

First Day Hike
Jan. 1: 1 First Day Hike. 1 to 3:30 p.m.
Start your New Year right on a self-guided family-friendly hike in the State Park woodlands at the Garden. Weather permitting; you can climb to the Mt. Defiance overlook on the Halifax trail and return, or choose our alternate hike without a climb.
Wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothes. Meet at the Carriage House between 1-2 p.m. Map and hike directions will be provided at the start. Allow 90 minutes for the hike. Staff will be on the trail for assistance if required.
