Lady Highlanders sting Hornets on tennis courts

    West Milford dominated all five matches in routing Passaic Valley 5-0 in a NHC-Skyline Division girls' tennis match on Friday afternoon (September 16). The Highlanders won each confrontation in straight sets, losing a total of only eight games. Nicole Dieterich continued to excel in the No. 2 singles slot, shutting out Helen Rojas 6-0, 6-0. Stephanie Irven cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 win against Michelle Pastorino in the meeting of No. 1 singles players while Lauren Finaldi romped to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at third singles over Gina Clough. Chris Irven and Erin Ryan, the Highlanders' top doubles team, posted a 6-1, 6-1 triumph over Kim Drwiega and Christine Lu while the No. 2 tandem of Ashley Popnick and Marta Wojtowicz crushed Jenny Lin and Mira Patel 6-1, 6-0. On Monday Sept. 19, West Milford was edged 3-2 by Wayne Valley in a Skylin Division match. Dieterich defeated Laura Sammartino 6-4, 6-1 at second singles and the second doubles team of Popnick and Wojtowicz bested Renee Hooker and Emily Maciag 6-3, 6-3.
