Review of township salaries and job titles on hold indefinitely

After being tabled four times, it is unclear if an ordinance to set employee job titles and pay ranges will be introduced at the next Township of West Milford Council meeting on Wednesday, May 23.
At the last meeting of the council, the officials had a heated debate about the salaries and the report of the meeting in The Messenger resulted in heated comments in the online publication of the story.
The council has delayed action on the employee ordinance until they receive the results of an outside firm's efficiency study commissioned by the council. It will cost the township $65,000.
However, Mayor Bettina Bieri and Administrator Antoinette Battaglia say that the council has all information needed to introduce the salary ordinance for discussion.
The ordinance would first have been discussed in a public hearing and then been up for a vote by the council on Wednesday — had it been introduced at the last meeting.
The proposal listed job titles and the minimum and maximum pay range for each.
