Country Comfort just got a big break.

The country band, with members from throughout the area including the township of West Milford, won NASH FM 94.7's first annual battle of the country bands which was held in Franklin Square on Long Island.

The three finalists for this New Jersey/New York area event were all from northern New Jersey: Leanne Weiss is based in Riverdale, Apryl Evans is from East Rutherford and Country Comfort from West Milford

As winners, the band will open for Sara Evans and Craig Morgan at Six Flags/Great Adventure in Jackson on Aug. 31.

Band members include Jeff Kurtz of Rockaway, Dan Zimmerman of Clifton, Patrick Burns of Branchville, Michelle Theobald of Stockholm, Dan Altana of West Milford and Ken Esposito of Sussex.

According to Burns, the band has been together for two years. He calls them a "Craig's List band" because they actually came together through an ad placed by Altana on Craig's List.

Country Comfort is appearing this Sunday, Aug. 3, at the New Jersey State Fair/Sussex County Farm and Horse Show from 2 to 4 p.m. The band also appears regularly throughout the area and will play at the Vernon Inn on Aug. 1, Vasa Park in Budd Lake on Aug. 9, the Railyard in Fair Lawn and Thatcher McGhees in Denville on Aug. 24.
