Sussex County Area residents interested in the fine art of photography will want to view the current exhibit at the Public Gallery in Newton. The Sussex County Arts and Heritage Council, in conjunction with Sprint, is presenting its 11th Exhibition of Fine Art and competition. From among the 31 entries, Sprint will select photographs for the cover of their 2006 directories for the Sussex County edition and the Lake Mohawk/Sparta edition. A cash prize of $100 will be presented to each of the two winners. The gallery is located on the second floor of the Judicial Center at 43-47 High Street in Newton, and is free of charge. The show runs through Nov. 1. Regular hours are 8:30 AM to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays, and Tuesdays from 5-7 p.m. Photographers showing their work are: Lynne Cavanaugh, Jack Hornstra, and Peg Luomanen of Sparta; Cathy Conroy of Blairstown,; Ron Douros and Jeffrey Smith of Wantage; Don Freeman of Oak Ridge; Robert Heimall of Glenwood; Paul Mahoney of Franklin; Sheryl McNeel of Newton; Leslie L. Phiefer of Lafayette; Don Phillip of North Haledon; and Jennifer Waldron of Andover Township. A closing reception to honor the artists will be held from 5-7 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 1. The winners of the Sprint competition will be announced at that time. Admission is free, and light refreshments will be served.
