Museum Village Playhouse announces 2024 season lineup
Monroe. The season begins in May with “Steel Magnolias,” by Robert Harling.
Creative Theatre — Muddy Water Players has announced its 2024 season at The Playhouse at Museum Village in Monroe. Individual tickets, season subscriptions, and group rates are available by visiting AtThePlayhouse.org or by calling the Box Office at 845-294-9465.
This will be the 29th year the all-volunteer company has performed at its home located on the grounds of Museum Village in Monroe (1010 Route 17M). The company promotes itself as “Dessert Theatre,” serving a dessert buffet of apple pie, ice cream, cheese, iced tea, and coffee during intermission. Audiences have come to expect both a cultural and tasty treat with each performance.
The 2024 season begins in May with “Steel Magnolias,” by Robert Harling and directed by David Mossey. The play focuses on a group of gossipy southern ladies in a small-town beauty parlor, with both moments of hilarity and compassion. Performances run from May 3 to 19.
The July production of the popular Ken Ludwig comedy, “A Comedy of Tenors,” will be performed from July 6 to 25. The characters from “Lend Me a Tenor” are back... one hotel suite, four tenors, two wives, three girlfriends, and a soccer stadium filled with screaming fans. What could possibly go wrong? The production is under the direction of Donna Polichetti.
Completing the 2024 season will be performances of the musical “Urinetown,” a hilarious and resonating tale of greed, corruption, love, and revolution in a time when water is worth its weight in gold. The musical, directed by Cynthia Topps, with Laura Evans as musical director and Diane Holbert as choreographer, will run September 7 to 22.
The company also presents a “Fall Finale” in November that is not part of the subscription series. This year, the comedy “The Miss Firecracker Contest” will run from November 2 to 10. Carnelle is an irrepressible young woman who thinks that winning the local beauty contest will restore her soiled reputation. Directed by Lori Crescenzo, this explosively funny play provides a downpour of comedy that almost never subsides.
