UGL holds belated July 4 celebration
WEST MILFORD. After being postponed from earlier in the month, Upper Greenwood Lake held its annual fireworks display and other events to celebrate Independence Day.
The Upper Greenwood Lake Property Owners Association celebrated a belated Independence Day with 35-minute Fireworks display on July 27.
The initial celebration was postponed from earlier in the month due to weather.
Locals and association members watched from the water on all types of boats, and from UGL's beach.
Prior to the fireworks display, UGL held it's 31st annual Hot Dog Roast on the white sand beach.
More than 275 grilled franks were served to well over 150 UGL frankfurter fans of all ages.
Condiments included various types of mustard, hot sauerkraut, locally created and produced Moe Mountain Hot Sauce, relish, and ketchup for the kids.
Those wanting dessert had the option to enter the chocolate pudding and cream pie eating contest where contestants had to eat their pies face first like a dog at a bowl with no utensils, and with their hands behind their backs.
The pie eating contest was once again won by West Milford's pie eating legend "Scuba Steve" Parker.
Scuba Steve is know locally as the "Joey Chestnuts of Pie Eating."
Along with fireworks, hot Dogs and pie eating, the day included a challenging cross lake swim contest for kids won this year by Jack Degman, a beach tug of war, a water balloon toss game, tie dying t-shirts, and a sand castle building contest for the youngest beach goers.
UGL Beach association members enjoyed perfect July weather and Upper Greenwood Lake water.
Upper Greenwood Lake is the second largest private lake In New Jersey.
