On Friday, May 3, two members of the Village of Greenwood Lake Police Department reportedly helped save a woman and her K9 companion who appeared to be in distress while in the water.
“The Village of Greenwood Lake Police Department would like to recognize and commend the exceptional bravery and quick action of Sergeant Daniel Jones and Detective Jason Dwyer, both active members of our police department’s scuba diving search and rescue team. Their heroic efforts today, Friday May 3, 2024, at Senator Morahan Beach undoubtedly saved the lives of a female subject and her beloved K9 companion,” the department said in a statement.
According to the report, Jones and Dwyer were in the process of securing the swim platform and setting up swim ropes at Senator Morahan Beach when they noticed a woman and her dog “distressed in the water.” Without hesitation, the report noted, both officers used their extensive training and expertise in water rescue techniques to reach the woman and her dog and successfully bring them to safety.
“Their quick response and unwavering dedication ensured that a potentially tragic situation was averted,” the police department stated, adding, “The prompt response of Officer Patrick Duggan and the Greenwood Lake Volunteer Ambulance Corps — staffed by Jesse Dwyer, Michael King and Robert Foschini — should also be commended. Once dispatched, they arrived on the scene within minutes, providing crucial medical support and ensuring the well-being of the rescued individual.”
Former Greenwood Lake mayor and current Warwick Town Supervisor Jesse Dwyer also expressed thanks via social media to Greenwood Lake Village Police Chief Adam Eirand, “who took no credit but was also on duty and on scene preparing to launch the police boat! Great work gentlemen!”
The Greenwood Lake Police Department further praised all emergency services professionals involved. “Their actions serve as a reminder of the invaluable contributions made by our public safety professionals.”
