Sparta - Boy Scout Troop 82 celebrated its 50th anniversary with a celebration and dinner at the Sky View Golf Club in Sparta. More than 100 Scouts, dignitaries and family were in attendance. Many former scouts and leaders traveled from other states to join the celebration. Assemblywoman Alison McHose presented the troop with a citation. Additionally, executives from the Patriots Path Council were on hand to present the troop with achievement awards. One of the many highlights of the event was a historical documentary video created by Venture Crew Leader and Assistant Scoutmaster, Joe Quigley. The video contained interviews with past leaders and scouts as well as the Troop’s first Eagle Scout, Earl Post, Jr., whose father was the first Scoutmaster in 1957. Troop 82 is the oldest continuously running Boy Scout troop in Sussex County and has a long history of service to the surrounding community. Scouts from Troop 82 have climbed many of the major peaks in the Northeast, attend the National and International Jamborees, send crews to Philmont Scout Reservation in New Mexico, Sea Base in Florida, and are active campers and hikers at Patriots Path Council events. Roger Rowan, also of Sparta, is the Scoutmaster of the troop. The troop holds its meetings at the First Presbyterian Church in Sparta.
