Newton - Catherine Guirreri, who will be 95 on Christmas Eve, was honored by the Epsilon chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International Sept. 24. Guirreri, a charter member of the group, recently published her third book, titled Katie, Jill of All Trades. She previously wrote, The One Room School and Life on the Farm. Catherine still lives on the 170-acre farm in Lafayette into which her family moved more than 80 years ago. The luncheon celebration in her honor took place at Bristol Glen, a continuing care residential community in Newton. Guirreri was accompanied by her son, Joseph, and later joined by her daughter, Ann, son-in-law, and granddaughter. After lunch, she spoke to the group about writing and book publishing. Her third book is about the many jobs that a young woman living on a farm had to perform before she became a teacher. Guirreri began her teaching career in 1935 in a one-room school in Lafayette Twp. She later taught in a three-room school in Lafayette and for many years in the Newton public school system. She retired in 1977 after 33 years of teaching.
