“This is an occasion to be proud of, now our police force is complete,” Mayor Kenneth Kievit said at the Oct. 16 Council meeting where Lee Gordon officially took the oath of office as Police Captain. Chief Brett Alemy and Captain Gordon now fill the positions vacated by retired Chief Keith Armstrong and Captain Alan Henderson. With her husband Bryan and son Tom, looking on, Captain Gordon completed the recitation of the oath to a lively round of applause from the entire police force, as well as many fire and first aid personnel and members of the Hardyston community. Officer Gordon began her law enforcement career as a Special Officer/Dispatcher in Riverdale in 1983. She was hired by Hardyston Township in 1993 as a police officer. In 1999, Gordon was promoted to sergeant and now to captain. “I and the Township Council appreciate the great attitude and dedication that the entire department has demonstrated over this year of transition,” Town Manger Marianne Smith said. “Chief Alemy, Captain Gordon and Lieutenant Brenzel all complement each other well on the leadership end and together with the sergeants and patrol officers, we in Hardyston have an exceptional force that will continue to protect and serve.”
