John William Mac Mahon of Milford, Pa., passed away at home on Feb. 21, 2012. He was 54. The son of Shawn and Mary (Lynch) Mac Mahon he was born on June 25, 1957 in New York, N.Y. He spent many years living with his family in West Milford before moving to New Bern, N.C.
He most recently moved to Milford, Pa., in May of 2011, to join his sister Maryanne's family.
John was a very special man, having faced the challenges that disabilities presented him with. He proved early on that the grim prognosis given at his birth wasn't going to slow him down. His mother was his champion in navigating the special education system during its formative years, with his father, Sean, and wife Betty later assuming active roles in their local N.C. ARC association. John was a lifelong music fan, especially of Elton John whom he saw in concert just last summer, but also loved attending Irish music sessions, spending time with his sisters, going to the beach, movies, eating pizza, tea and apple pie, and riding his adult trike whenever he could. If we listen closely, we may hear the squeaky wheels in heaven.
John was predeceased by his devoted mother, Mary Lynch Mac Mahon, and his younger brother, Gerard Michael Mac Mahon.
He is survived by his father, Sean Mac Mahon and his wife Betty of New Bern, N.C.; sister, Maryanne Ford and her husband, Eric of Milford, Pa.; sister Katie Mac Mahon and her husband Robert Wosyluk of West Milford; six nephews: Eric, Brendan, and Willie Ford; Robby, Dillon, and Ryan Wosyluk, and several aunts, uncles, and cousins in the United States, Ireland, England, and Wales.
A funeral Mass was held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at St. Vincent De Paul Church in Milford, where Fr. Paul Mullen officiated. Internment will take place at Cedar Heights Cemetary in West Milford at the convenience of the family.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John's memory to the Pike County Developmental Center, attention: Liz Torkildsen, 107 West Ann Street, Milford, PA 18337, where John attended until he became ill in December, 2011.
