SPARTA Jonathan Scott, of Troop 150 in Sparta, received his Eagle Scout award on June 12 at an Eagle Scout Court of Honor at the Sparta United Methodist Church. Jon began his scouting career as a Tiger Cub in 1999 and has remained with Troop 150 through the years. The list of adventures while a scout is quite extensive though his favorites were outings to Sea Base in the Florida Keys where he lived on a sailboat for a week, and every whitewater rafting trip. Jon has held a number of leadership positions while in Troop 150 which helped him in preparation for his Eagle Scout project. The project he completed was refurbishing the outdoor worship area at the Sparta United Methodist Church. The church is the sponsor of Troop 150, and jon is a long-time member of the congregation. He wanted to do something for the church in return and so re-built benches, cleared overgrown brush to stake out a new path and landscaped the entire area. The first service was held in September of 2010. Jon is a 2011 graduate of Sparta High School and will be attending Fairleigh Dickinson University in the fall. While in high school he was a 4-year varsity swimmer, served as captain of the swim team, was an assistant editor of the school paper, a journalism TA and an active member in several of the choirs. In addition, he was a member of the National Honor Society. Jon swam on a club swim team and was captain this past year. He is looking forward to college and returning to help the younger scouts of Troop 150.
