WEST MILFORD ‑‑ Barbara Elmers passed away on Saturday, Sept. 30, at Care One in Wayne.
Born on Staten Island, Barbara raised her family in Pompton Lakes before retiring to Bald Eagle Commons in West Milford. Beloved wife of the late Arthur Elmers. Survived by her loving children Arthur Jr. and his wife, Janet; Dennis and wife, Michele, Karen Hinton and Al Gelok, and Douglas. Barbara is also survived by sisters Peg and Lynn and grandchildren, Randy, Rebecca, Adam, Andrew, Danielle, Natalie, and Maria. She is predeceased by sisters Joan and Sue.
For many years before retiring, Barbara was a teacher’s aide working with special needs children at Passaic County Technical School in Wayne. While sometimes trying, it was the joy of her life to help these children grow and learn.
Visitation will be from 2-4 and 6-8 pm Thursday, Oct. 5, at Richards Funeral Home, 1440 Union Valley Road, West Milford. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday at Richards with lunch to follow at Portofino’s Ristorante, 5129 Berkshire Valley Road, Oak Ridge.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Passaic County Education Foundation, 45 Reinhardt Road, Wayne, N.J. 07470 for use by the children she loved so much.
