Barbara Van Riper

    Barbara J. Van Riper (Norman), 87, of West Milford, passed away Dec. 12, surrounded by her children and grandchildren.
    She was born in 1931 in Hackensack, the daughter of the late George M. and Margaret Norman (Wyks).
    She attended Westwood Schools, and after graduating from high school, she worked in the real estate and insurance industry, and then for PSE&G in Hackensack.
    In 1958 she married Fred G. Van Riper, who was a Village of Ridgewood Prosecutor for 24 years.
    They raised their family in Ridgewood, and were members of the First Presbyterian Church.
    Barbara was a volunteer at Valley Hospital’s Kurth Cottage.
    Upon retirement, they made their home in East Hardwick, Vermont, moving back to New Jersey in 2014 to be close to family.
    Barbara was predeceased by her husband Fred in 2016, and her son Thomas in 2006.
    She is survived by her daughter Suzanne and her husband William Connolly, daughter Anne Van Riper, grandchildren William Connolly, Nichole Van Riper and Dylan Van Riper, her brother George Norman and his wife Jacqueline, and her sister Gwynedd Reyle.
    A Memorial Service will be held in January.
