Frank Louis Toscano of West Milford died peacefully on Sunday, April 5, 2020. He was 85.
Born in 1934 and then raised in the Bronx, Frank was the youngest of ten siblings.
In 1956 Frank met the love of his life - “his sweetheart” - Catherine.
Frank joined the U.S. Army and served from 1955-1957.
Catherine and Frank married on September 20, 1958, and lived in the Bronx until moving to Dumont, N.J., in 1966.
It was in September 1970 that his and Catherine’s life became complete with the birth of their only child, Frank James.
Frank worked as a pressman at Barton Press in West Orange for more than 20 years before retiring in 1996. His retirement allowed him to spend time doing the things he loved like gambling in Atlantic City, playing golf with his childhood friends, Richie, Sonny and Frankie and helping his son at his auto body shop. Frank could often be found helping move a car from here to there at the shop, enjoying a buttered roll in the office, scratching off lottery tickets or grabbing lunch from the hot dog cart with Frank.
Frank was a loving and devoted grandfather. He and his grandchildren were regulars at the Van Saun Park, the Turtle Back Zoo or anywhere else he could spend time with them throughout their childhood.
In 2012, Frank and Catherine moved to West Milford to be closer to their son and family. Being close-by allowed him to spend time at Frank and Cristin’s relaxing on the deck or on the lake, pacing back and forth while waiting for Catherine to finish her gardening at their home or attending his grandson’s baseball games.
One of Frank’s other favorite pastimes was shooting pool with anyone who would grab a game. His pool cue is now officially retired.
Frank is survived by his wife of 62 years, Catherine; his loving and devoted son and daughter-in-law, Frank James and Cristin; three grandchildren Frankie, Daniella and Heather and great granddaughter Payton; two sisters Viola Alessio and Mary Shannon; his sister-in-law Elayne and brother-in-law Frank Pappas (Liz).
He is predeceased by brothers and sisters Tony, John (Phyllis), Joseph (Yolanda), Charles, Jean and brothers-in-law, James Dunleavy, John Alessio and Edward Shannon.
Frank had many nieces and nephews whom he adored and they adored him. Memorial services will be held at a later date.
Arrangements entrusted to Richards Funeral Home in West Milford.
