Margarita “Peggy” Alvarez-Arizmendi of Warwick, NY, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at St. Anthony Community Hospital.
Peggy was born in Brooklyn in September 1929 and was 88 years old.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Dr. Lawrence Alvarez (1968), and her second husband Frank Arizmendi (1997).
As a young housewife, Peggy performed volunteer work for The Rosary Society in Brooklyn.
She subsequently worked as a medical office receptionist in Brooklyn before working as a payroll clerk for 15 years at the Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn.
Peggy relocated to Warwick, where she performed real estate sales work in different offices in, both West Milford, NJ, and Warwick.
She was an active member of the West Milford Elks 2236 Ladies Club. Peggy also performed volunteer work for St. Anthony Community Hospital Auxiliary (SACHA) and the Friends of Albert Wisner Public Library in Warwick.
Peggy’s final work experience included four years as a medical office receptionist for her son in Warwick.
She is survived by her children: Dr. Ralph Alvarez and Fred Alvarez of Warwick, Lawrence Alvarez of Brooklyn, Margie Alvarez and Diane Alvarez of Middletown; her granddaughter, Althea Alvarez; a brother, Louis in Midland Park, NJ; and a sister, Josephine in West Palm Beach, FL.
Visitation will be on Friday, Jan. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, Jan. 6, from 12 noon to 2 p.m. and 4 to 6 p.m. at Lazear-Smith & Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 17 Oakland Ave., Warwick.
A private funeral service will be held, followed by interment in Warwick Cemetery.
