Ensign Christine Schultz, daughter of William and Suzanne Schultz of Glenwood, has successfully completed NOAA Commissioned Corps Basic Officer Training at the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. A 2003 graduate of Vernon Township High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree in meteorology from the Pennsylvania State University in 2006. While at PSU she was a member of Chi Epsilon Pi, the National Meteorological Honor Society. She was shift manager of the Campus Weather Service. She also interned at the famed weather observatory on the top of Mount Washington in New Hampshire and was a member of the PSU sailing team. Schultz is assigned as a junior officer to the NOAA ship Rainier, conducting hydrographic surveys on the southern coast of Alaska. The Rainier’s homeport is Seattle. The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) operates a fleet of ships and aircraft under the United States Department of Commerce conducting worldwide oceanic and atmospheric research.
