Cirrus is a 4-year-old Dogo Argentino mix. Dogos are described as “coat of white satin, body of steel and heart of gold.” This describes Cirrus. He is very friendly, loving and fun. He seems to tolerate cats and likes some other dogs. However, he should be the only male dog in a household with older children or adults only. Dogos like physical contact with people. They don’t want to lie by your feet, but on your feet. They are good watch dogs and family pets. Dogo’s respond to positive reinforcement and motivation training but do not understand or respond to force training. Dogos are classified as hounds. The Dogo has a colorful history. The bred was developed by two brothers, Antonio and Austin Martinez in 1925 in Argentina. They wanted to breed a big game hound. The crossed ten breeds: 1) The Fighting Dog of Cordoba (Dogos are not fighting dogs) 2) Pointer for sense of smell 3) Boxer for vivacity and gentleness 4) Great Dane for size 5) Bull Terrier for fearlessness 6) Bulldog for chest size and boldness 7) Irish Wolfhound for instinct 8) Doguede Bordeaux for powerful jaws 9) Great Pyreness for the white coat and 10) Spanish Mastiff for power. All of these produced a great dog and while Cirrus is a mix, he possesses all of the great qualities and appearance of the Dogo. To meet Cirrus, call 973-728-2859.
