WEST MILFORD - Rockland Electric Company has contributed $500 to help support the monthly blood drive in West Milford, according to the Blood Center of New Jersey. The Monthly Blood Drive is celebrating its fifth year in June. Since 1999, area residents have donated more than 3,500 pints. Jim Gilligan, chair of the Monthly Blood Drive, is asking businesses to join with Rockland Electric in supporting this effort. "We are asking for both financial and blood donations," Gilligan said. "We want to be able to celebrate five years in a big way and recognize the donors and the community groups that have played a part in its success," he continued. The Blood Center of New Jersey, which collects, tests, and processes the blood counts Jim Gilligan as one of its best and most hard-working volunteers. "If we had a few more Jim Gilligans working with us, we would be much closer to reaching our goal of self-sufficiency in New Jersey," said Judy Daniels, BCNJ spokeswoman. The Blood Center of New Jersey is a community, non-profit organization supplying blood and blood components to hospitals in eight counties in northern and central New Jersey. The Monthly Blood Drive is held on the third Sunday of every month at the West Milford First Aid Squad on Ridge Road from 8:30 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. For more information, contact Gilligan at 973-728-4251.
