WEST MILFORD — This time of year brings out the best in people. West Milford residents are certainly doing their share for the less fortunate in the township. The yearly coat drive ended last week and coordinators Mike Ramaglia and Chuck Enering report that more than 2,000 coats were collected. That's 800 more than last year's successful drive when 1,200 coats were donated and distributed.
Ramaglia said the need was greater this year, and the community came through.
In addition to the new and gently-used winter coats, hats, mittens, gloves, scarves, boots, toys and food were also collected.
The drive ran through Wednesday, Nov. 26. Folks dropped off their donations at locations throughout town.
The coats, warm accessories, toys and food were distributed to local families on Saturday, Nov. 29, at West Milford Presbyterian Church.
Enering and Ramaglia thanked all who donated, with special thanks to Karen Ortanli, Diane Ericksen, West Milford Lions, Jimmy Geez North, JRC Jewelry, West Milford Florist, BC Marketing, Valley View Pub, Conservatives for the Highlands and Town Tavern.
