Ambassador Andrea Hilario has productive summer

It was a very busy summer for West Milford High School senior Andrea Hilario.

Andrea attended the 2015 New Jersey American Legion Auxiliary Girls State summer program where she served as the Girls State pianist while participating in the morning physical training program with the Marines and held various leadership positions such as city attorney, sergeant at arms, county counsel and governor's counsel.

Andrea also served as an ambassador of New Jersey on the Americans for Prosperity New Jersey Delegation at the 2015 Defending the American Dream Summit from Aug. 21 to 22 in Columbus, Ohio.

"The apathetic nationalism among millennials and the detachment from our nation's founding principles is quite daunting," said Andrea. "However, the dismissiveness and skepticism seen among our nation's younger generations is not necessarily a protest of ignorance, but is rather a reflection of present day America. Citizens of all ages have been lied to time and time again by the media and by the undermining rhetoric in Washington and I believe it is imperative to be proactive and informed when it comes to current policy and our state legislature. The reality is that we are all affected either directly or indirectly by the decisions made by our elected officials," said the West Milford senior.

"Over 4,000 activists attended the 2015 summit," Andrea continued. "By working with Americans for Prosperity, I am able to make an impact at the federal, state, and local level. It was truly an amazing experience to see representatives from all 50 states standing up for a cause much bigger than ourselves."
