After entertaining veterans from the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders Preakness Health Care Center, American Legion Post 289 members announced that the 2017 annual toy drive is under way.
The Ladies Auxiliary has asked that new, unwrapped toys appropriate for infants through teenagers be dropped off at the Post home at 117 Lincoln Ave., Hewitt, in the Township of West Milford now through Dec. 15.
Drop off time is Mondays through Fridays 4-8 p.m. and on Saturdays and Sundays noon until 8 p.m.
All gifts go to the Veterans Closet and local children.
At various times during the year the Legion members and their Ladies Auxiliary have entertained veterans from the skilled nursing facility at Preakness.
The visitors travel by bus with a seasonal view of the local countryside. Lunch is prepared for them at the post by the Ladies Auxiliary.
