Kayaks and boats were throughout the lake Tuesday as the swimmers swam across.

Kate Huggins is interviewed by a local tv channel after finishing first in the 10 and under category of the Awosting Swim Across the Lake. Her dad, Jay, is at left.

At the halfway point, the swimmers got out of the lake, rested a bit and then jumped right back in!

The swimmers took to the water on the second leg of the race.
HEWITT — Residents of Awosting gathered at the boathouse dock Tuesday morning to participate in a tradition that is more than 50 years old in neighborhood: the swim across the lake.
A total of 31 people took part in the annual event, with some doing some serious training for it.
Safety is always very important to the officials of the event, with two Coast Guard boats, two pontoon boats and several open bow boats all manned with life guards watching the swimmers, with plenty of flotation devices if needed.
First place winner in the 10 and under category was Kate Huggins.
"On the way across the lake the water was warm," said Kate, "but on the way back it was absolutely freezing."
Winning probably warmed her up quickly.
