Battinelli Family Farms submits plan
WEST MILFORD. An application for a use variance is scheduled to be heard by the Zoning Board on Nov. 28.
Battinelli Family Farms submitted documents to the West Milford Zoning Board last month for “revitalization of the property” at 1566 Union Valley Road.
The board is scheduled to review the plans at its meeting Nov. 28.
Allison Battinelli said her family purchased the 40-acre farm three years ago with the hopes of turning it into a place where the community could gather.
Plans call for a farm stand, farm store, bakery, tap house/wine tasting area, animal petting barn and more. There also would be an area for parking.
“On Nov. 28, we hope to go before the West Milford Zoning Board of Adjustment, where we will be seeking a use variance that would allow for the construction of a commercial and retail facility together with a farm operation,” she said.
“The retail component of our vision is located on a portion of the farm that is in a community commercial zone. A community commercial zone permits retail and sales of goods and services. However, since the proposed use is classified as a farm, together with the sale of farm products, the use is not specifically permitted in a community commercial zone. That is why we need the use variance.”
When asked about the matter, Mayor Michele Dale said she could not comment on the application.
Multiple calls to the Zoning Board and township administrator were not returned.
