HEWITT ‑‑ The new altar at Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt has been blessed and consecrated by Bishop Arthur J. Serratelli.
The ceremony and services took place on Sunday, Dec. 17.
The new altar was part of a renovation project that took place in the church. Local contractors, who are parishioners, donated their time and talents to renovate the sanctuary, church officials said.
The new altar is made of stone and marble and the sanctuary's flooring and walls were also replaced.
Several fundraisers were held to raise money for the project, which took about six weeks to complete. Those who helped with the renovations of the sanctuary were: archtitect Marcin Pisarczyk, Andrzej Siek, Andrzej Krempaski, Wojciech Nosal, Bartłomiej Rataj, and Krzysztof Kaczynski.
Restrooms were also part of the project and were completed thanks to the "time and talent" of Nick Salleroli, the church said, adding that the "congregation is grateful for the generosity and dedication of these craftsmen."
