BOE names new McCormack Field House for former trustee
West Milford. The Board of Education has named a new building after a longtime former member.
On Aug. 20 the West Milford Board of Education unanimously approved a resolution to name the new field house at McCormack Field as the "Greg Bailey Field House, Home of the Highlanders" To honor the former board member.
"(It is) to honor his valued service to all West Milford student athletes and the community of West Milford Township," the resolution said.
The resolution recognized Bailey as "instrumental in the development and expansion of athletic programs at McCormack Field."
According to the resolution, Bailey served as a volunteer coach for many years and "continues to be a staunch supporter of the athletic and academic programs at West Milford High School."
Bailey has also made "innumerable contributions of his time, talent, and business services" to the school district, and is the longest serving member of the West Milford Board of Education, having served as a "prominent member" for 22 years.
The Resolution stated: "the naming of the Field House at McCormack Field in his honor will be an enduring tribute to Greg Bailey’s love for the West Milford Highlanders and his relentless dedication to all those who will use this facility for years to come."
Bailey received a standing ovation at the meeting following the approval of the resolution, and was congratulated with hugs and handshakes by family members, staff, and friends present in the audience.
He then made a statement thanking his family and the citizens of West Milford for their support over the years, adding that all of his children are Highlanders alumni, and his young granddaughter will be entering the school system soon as well.
Bailey said he always strives for and will continue to advocate for and help West Milford provide the best public school environment, the best environment for the student athletes, and the best school system for the town as a whole.
Bailey then, once again, offered free professional paving services from his company for the district, with the district only having to pay the cost of materials, to complete the surrounding field house area once the building project has been completed early this fall.
In typical fashion, Bailey completed his statement with another thank you to his family and to West Milford citizens for their support over the years, before he concluded with "Go Highlanders!"
