For the past several years the residents of West Milford Township have had the opportunity to have laboratory services provided close to home at the Chilton Lab at Hewitt Plaza. Now, if it’s time for an x-ray, mammogram, ultrasound or bone density test, they need go no farther than the same Hewitt location to find state-of-the-art digital services at the new Chilton Imaging facility.

According to Thomas Scott, director of Operations for Chilton Medical Center, the hospital was originally contacted by West Milford officials seeking medical services closer to home for the town’s residents.

It took a bit of time, but the perfect location was identified and they began to develop the Chilton Ambulatory Care Center on Union Valley Road.

“We wanted to create a one-stop, easy access facility for patients so they won’t have to travel so far to get those tests performed,” Scott said.

Previously residents had the time consuming inconvenience of driving up to 30 minutes or more from town to reach Chilton Medical Center, and that’s without traffic or bad weather conditions.

“It was a long way to drive and people would sometimes put it off a bit,” Scott said. Now with the imaging center and lab right in town people can get their tests done sooner, their results back faster and should there be an issue it can be attended to in a more timely manner.

“If your doctor says you need an x-ray for a possible broken bone, for example, you can come here. That can save you an unnecessary trip to the emergency room and put you on the road to specialty care, if need be. Plus, your test results will be available electronically (by computer) for your doctor to view,” he said. No appointments are needed for x-rays, he added.

Chilton Lab provides complete lab services including body fluid analysis, drug monitoring, and blood glucose testing. If needed, samples can be sent to a specialized lab for analysis.

All the diagnostic tests done at the Hewitt location, both lab and imaging, are sent to Chilton Medical Center for interpretation.

The patient just needs to bring their doctor’s order to the Hewitt center and in many cases no appointment is necessary. Insurance coverage is the same as at the hospital. “We take pretty much all insurance,” Scott said.

The facilities are modern and attractive and the professional and friendly staff strives to ensure a positive experience for the patient.

“Tell your friends about it. We’ve tried to make it as easy as possible to handle all your diagnostic needs in one location,” Scott concluded.
