Coyote is 'out of the woods'

Last month, Dr. Janet Streng, a vet at Greenwood Lake Animal Hospital, came across an injured coyote struggling to get out of the way of morning commute traffic on Warwick Turnpike. Streng guided the coyote off the road where it was discovered the coyote was severely injured as a result of being hit by a vehicle.

Streng called Greenwood Lake Animal Hospital to arrange for tranquilization and transportation of the wounded coyote to the hospital. Patty O'Shea, certified veterinary technician, and Dr. Eric Louer responded to the scene with appropriate restraint and sedation. The coyote suffered a broken pelvis and several lacerations.

Louer and Dr. Kathy Price, along with the technical staff at the hospital, stabilized the coyote and performed surgery to repair several lacerations. He was subsequently transported to Woodlands Wildlife Refuge in Pittstown for rehabilitation.
