Fifth and sixth grade students of Paradise Knoll School have been sharpening their spelling skills in preparation for the school’s annual Spelling Bee. The classroom teachers conducted individual spelling bees in their classrooms to find the top spellers to compete in the final school-wide competition, which was held on March 28. According to the school’s Reading Specialist, Susan Bickford, 20 contestants in all - five finalists from each fifth and sixth grade homeroom - competed as finalists in the school-wide bee. Fifth grader Heather Leubling and sixth grader Daniel Budd were the top school spellers. Daniel won the title of Paradise Knoll School Spelling Bee Champion for 2013 in the elimination round when he first spelled the word “sculptor” correctly, and then spelled the championship word “marsupial” correctly. Both the Heather and Daniel receive trophies for their accomplishment.
