To mark Memorial Day, The Elks Club displayed individual flags dedicated to the memory of loved ones in front of their lodge on Union Valley Road. The 3-by-5 foot flags are sponsored for $25 each. The Elks put them out on Memorial Day, Flag Day, 4th of July, September 11 and Veterans Day. The flags are placed in the morning and are taken in at sundown. Each is tagged with information that the sponsor wants on it, for example, the branch of service, rank, or where a service member was stationed. The flags are to honor living service members, in memory of a deceased one or as support of someone in the military. Some are for no one in particular, just a general sentiment expressed as God bless our troops. Sponsor forms are at the lodge,, which is located at 1860 Union Valley Road.
