WEST MILFORD — “You are hero to me!” “Never say Never!” “You have super powers!” These are the messages that the girls from West Milford Junior Girl Scout Troop 94-619 want kids to hear. Recently, the girls read about Enchanted Makeovers, a group which seeks to “transform shelters from surviving to thriving spaces.”
As part of the Capes for Kids project, groups like the Girl Scouts construct and collect super-hero-style capes to inspire children in difficult situations. The concept suggests that all children have superpowers within, ready to be tapped by a little imagination.
“The Web site (see below) gives many suggestions for capes,” said troop leader Jennifer Metcalf.
“But we wanted the materials to be cuddly-soft, so little kids can curl up and nap if they want,” said her daughter, Colette.
Girl Scout Averi hopes that a child “will know that I was thinking about him,” and will feel better. Scout Melissa said that, when she feels badly, she hugs her mom; she hopes that warm strength comes through her fleecy cape.
In all, this Girl Scout troop made and sent 15 capes to the group.
