The West Milford Girls Softball Association held its annual "Opening Day Parade and Ceremony" on Saturday.
Players, coaches and parents gathered together and marched from the Shop Rite parking lot to the softball fields behind the West Milford Presbyterian Church for the ceremony and first Recreational League games of the season.
The West Milford Police Department, West Milford Fire Company #4, and the West Milford High School Highlander Band's Pipes and Drums Corps escorted the parade attendees down Union Valley Road.
Graduating Seniors from the WMHS Softball Team traveled in style for the parade, and were honored at the ceremony.
T-ball and Instructional Division Teams proudly displayed their team banners hoping to win a prize.
Julia Gerst sang the National Anthem to officially begin the Opening Day Ceremony.
WMGSA President, and Township Council President, Pete McGuinness acknowledged the WMGSA's volunteer Executive Board Members, Division Directors, and Team Managers for all Divisions.
McGuinness, along with Treasurer MJ Utter, and Secretary Donna Fleming (unable to attend) were each presented with a plaque in recognition of their many years of volunteer service to the WMGSA.
McGuinness is leaving his post as president of the organization, a position he has held for the last 10 years.
The three will complete their final year with the Association this June.
The Banner Contest winners were announced, and the graduating seniors from the WMHS Softball Team were each honored.
The WMHS Softball team's pitcher and catcher then threw out the first pitch to officially kick off the softball season.
