The West Milford Girls Softball Association's “Xtreme" Travel Softball Program held their annual “West Milford Xtreme Flapjack Fundraiser” on March 4 at Applebee's restaurant in Butler.
The funds raised by the event go toward offsetting program costs for players, who pay for their own uniforms.
Two uniforms are required for each player each year, a gold uniform and a black uniform for home and away games and tournaments, and each player also receives league-required protective gear such as a helmet, to use and keep for the remainder of their softball playing career.
Players from all divisions of the travel teams, including ages 8 and under, and ages 14 and under, served breakfast to 291 ticket-holders for two hours in the morning March 4. According to event coordinators, it was “Our biggest [flapjack fundraiser] yet!”
“The girls always have a lot of fun experiencing what it's like to work in a restaurant," Xtreme Coach John Clarke said. "A huge thank you to all the coaches and parents that helped.”
The leaders of WMGSA Xtreme Program also thanked the management of Applebee's Restaurant in Butler for providing the venue for the event, and to the community that came out to support the athletes by purchasing tickets or making cash donations.
