Goin' to the dogs

Mongo was a hit at the Chelsea at Bald Eagle's 4th annual dog show on May 16. So were a few bloodhounds - Buford, Spirit and Cletus - as well as

Gizmo, a Pekingese and several others.

The Chelsea hosts the dog show to entertain the residents and visitors. Mayor Bettina Bieri, an animal lover herself, judged the contest. The entry fee was a good deed in itself - a can of dog or cat food which was then donated to the West Milford Animal Shelter.

Mongo was a big hit with residents, and for good reason. He is quite friendly, visiting residents at Milford Manor Nursing Home and participating in the children's reading programs at the West Milford and Warwick libraries, thanks to his owner, Jim Bartholomew.

Mongo won three categories in the contests: fluffiest, prettiest face and resident's choice.

The bloodhounds made their presence known as well. Brought to the Chelsea by Southern Pride Bloodhounds in West Milford, they are trained as therapy service and search and rescue dogs.
