Holidays in Paradise

The Winter Concert at Paradise Knoll Elementary School was held on Dec. 19.
The 5th and 6th Grade Chorus students raised holiday spirit with their melodious performances of "Merry, Merry, Joy Joy"- with dancing elves Izabella McLean and Meagan VanKirk, "A Gospel Song of Peace," "A La Media Noche" (At the Hour of Midnight), and "A Hanukkah Wish" - featuring a solo performance by 6th grader Aiden Lucas. Choral Director Darla Van Sickle led the chorus in dazzling the audience, and they concluded with impressive moves in unison to the fun and upbeat finale song, "Santa is the Man."
The Paradise Knoll Beginner Band, primarily comprised of fifth grade students, then took the stage. Band Director Kristin Callahan told the spectators that most of the Beginner Band students had only been playing an instrument for about four months, and she was very impressed with their progress thus far, so much so, that she said the band can even play the first song selection- "Hot Cross Buns"-backwards! The audience laughed heartily when the entire band then stood up and faced the back of the stage and replayed the song, proving they could indeed play it backwards. The band further treated the crowd with performances of "Merrily We Roll Along," "Good King Wencelas" and "Jingle Bells."
The Advanced Band followed, comprised of 6th grade students in their second year of playing instruments with one exception- fifth grader Tiffany SantaLucia also joined with them on clarinet. The Advanced Band entertained the audience with the selections: "We Wish You a Merry Christmas," "Bells Bells Bells" and "March of the Tin Soldiers."
