— Girls World Expo is returning to the tri-state area and will once again be honoring local Girls of Merit between the ages of 11 and 18 for their exemplary community service through their actions, activities, leadership and positive influence on others.

Megan Chiovaro is a senior at West Milford High School who has devoted nearly all her free time by giving back to her community and those in need, mom Christine Chiovaro says in her nomination letter. In addition to working two jobs, captaining the varsity field hockey team at West Milford High School, peer mentoring and actively participating in the Interact Club at her school, Megan has accumulated over 200 hours of service over the last five years at Starlight Farms, a therapeutic horse center for special needs children, and is the youngest person to ever hold a chairperson position in the Tri-State Area with Relay for Life. On the balancing act that is her life, Megan says, “It’s crazy, but it has been a learning experience, for sure.”

Also being honored at the event are Keara Jenkins, of Wantage, Emily Scrobe, of Chester, N.Y., Samantha McCurry, of Ogdensburg, Casey Magee, of Warwick, Tori Munro, of Sparta, Miafayth Muse, of Sparta, Haleigh Espada, of Chester, Erin Langdale, of Warwick, and Kelsey Polanis, of Milford, Penn.

The Expo and awards brunch will be held at Minerals Hotel in Vernon on Saturday, Sept. 29 from 12 to 5 p.m. and will feature guest speakers, workshops for teens and parents, a fashion show, art show, music and dance performances, and the Girls World Marketplace.
