The N.J. Dept. of Environmental Protection Division of Safety and Flood Control has notified the Township of West Milford that some local lake dams need work.
A letter from DEP to the township dated June 5 said the lower pond dam at Bubbling Springs Municipal Park is found in poor condition.
It said the town should implement engineering recommendations, and any repairs other than general maintenance must be approved by the division.
The needed dam repair at the lake, which is owned by the municipality, has been a topic at the township level for a number of years with ongoing efforts to do so.
This is a second lake on the park property and is not the one used by the public for swimming and water activities.
The NJDEP also noted that work is needed at two private lake dams in Oak Ridge: Upper Crest Lake Dam and Lower Crest Lake Dam.
Additionally, a letter from NJDEP dated July 2 informed the municipality that Carpi Lake Dam off Morsetown Road, privately owned, is in “fair condition” with recommended general minor repair work permitted without further state approval.
