WEST MILFORD — Jim Worth of Pequannock Feed has been using Young Living Essential oils on himself for rotator cuff discomfort and is pleased with the results.
“I think they definitely helped; plus they’re healthy and all natural,” he said.
In response to growing interest, he now stocks the oils for use on pets and livestock. Pam Jordan, who both uses and sells the oils, recently held an educational workshop at Pequannock Feed to explain their use and plans to host more in the future.
“It’s so cool that Jim from Pequannock was going to bring in these oils. I don’t think there’s any other feed stores offering them,” she said.
People have been using essential oils for millennia, Jordan says. Oils are used for healing, meditation and spirituality, she notes.
What sets Young Living apart, Jordan says, is its 100 percent pure grade and guarantee. There are no additives. Current labeling standards mean some manufacturers can claim their oils are 100 percent essential oil and yet contain only five percent essential oil in them, she notes.
Young Living Essential Oils, in existence for 20 years, has a 100 percent “seed to seal” guarantee, Jordan says. To ensure purity and potency, Young Living controls the entire process. The plants, herbs, shrubs, etc. are planted in natural, virgin soil and no chemicals are used to cultivate them. Young Living harvests, distills to purest form, tests and bottles them.
“To me natural is always better, you can't get any more pure then these oils and people and pets can use the same products for the same things, it's that simple," Jordan said.
The medical community and the public have a greater appreciation of the power of plants to heal.
“People use these essential oils for the respiratory system, immune system, muscle discomfort, stomach discomfort and for relief of skin irritation on themselves and their animals,” Jordan says, and now, more and more, people are using them on their animals.
Professionals are using these oils: Chiropractors, acupuncturists, holistic vets.
Rescue dogs can get bounced around from owners to shelters and foster homes; they can be nervous and anxious. Jordan says oils have been found to be helpful in calming and soothing animals and for use pre-vet visit and during thunderstorms.
Jordan makes a spray application of essential oils to use on her Nubian goats for skin irritation.
“I’m not going to the store and getting a spray with all these chemicals that I can’t pronounce and will build up in the animal or person’s system,” she says, “People are looking for more natural remedies.”
Jordan herself found out about essential oils at a yoga workshop at Hillcrest Community Center.
Now, she says, “I feel like I’m helping so many people. It’s turned into a business. I Intended on sharing what I learned with others, and never intended for it to turn into something so grand. It’s my life; my lifestyle.”
