Ringwood Christian School students recently participated in the annual Northern New Jersey Christian School Association Math Contest and came home with first place in the relay competition.
More than 120 students from 10 local Christian schools participated. Competition was held at each grade level from third through eighth grades.
Students compete on an individual level as well as on a team level. Each competitor takes a written computation test and a written word problem test. A highlight of the competition is the relay which allows the team members to work together. Each student quickly works to solve their own math problem using information gained from the math computation of the previous student. In order to complete the relay successfully, each team member must do their work correctly. The Ringwood Christian School Division II team placed first in the relay.
The team of 12 elementary school students from Ringwood Christian School placed third in Division 2. This year’s team was coached by Michelle Kachler, middle school teacher, Renee Gunther and Claire Bedard, volunteers.
Ringwood Christian School team members included Gabe Koeber and Sean VanDerWeert (grade 3), Joseph Betz and Macey Richard (grade 4), Sean McHugh and Sadie Richard (grade 5), Hailey Bysterbusch and Victoria Mulligan (grade 6) Katelyn Foster and Ryan Sprung (grade 7) and Luissa Chanco and Joshua Guerrero (grade 8).
In Division I, Sean VanDerWeert placed third for grade 3, and seventh grader Ryan Sprung placed third.
