WEST MILFORD — The kids are back to school!
Students of West Milford school district went back to school for the very first day of the 2016-17 school year on Tuesday, Sept. 6. It was a beautiful, bright and sunny day for beginning their new year in their next level of education.
Donning their brand new outfits, lunch boxes, and backpacks full of school supplies, many kids exited their buses with smiles, happy to see their friends and teachers. A few tears were shed by new kindergartners (and a few of their parents too), but most seemed to just pick up right where they left off in June- ready to get back to the everyday grind of learning reading, writing, and ‘rithmetic.
Despite a few transportation glitches that are common each year, the new school year got off to a great start.
One of those glitches warranted a Nixle alert sent by the West Milford Police Department- alerting parents that Union Valley Road was closed in the afternoon in the area of Christine Court and Gould Road due to utility poles and a tree down. The report alerted motorists that the road would be closed for several hours due to emergency work, so they should plan an alternate route. Some busses were delayed 20 to 30 minutes on the return trip home due to the closure, but parents were also advised of the delay via a Honeywell alert sent by the school.
All in all, it was a beautiful day to start off another year of learning and growing for West Milford students.
