Scouts from Pack 159 become junior rangers

— Bear Cub Scouts from Pack 159 in Hewitt visited the Thomas Edison National Historical Park in West Orange. Their visit began with an orientation film, which included the 1894 Edison Kinetoscopic record of a sneeze, the earliest surviving copyrighted motion picture, as well as the 1903 silent movie "The Great Train Robbery." They then continued with tours of Thomas A. Edison's chemistry laboratory as well as his three-story main laboratory, where they were treated to a demonstration of two working Edison phonographs. The afternoon included a visit to Thomas and Mina Edison's gravesite, as well as a tour of their estate "Glenmont."

While visiting this National Historical Park, the scouts and their siblings worked hard (like Thomas Edison) to become Junior Rangers, and they all took the official Junior Ranger pledge and earned their Junior Ranger badges as well as their Thomas Edison National Historical Park patches. In attendance were Bear Scouts Timothy Butcher, Michael Brigante, Zachary Rodek and Ryan Sprung, as well as siblings Lilly Rodek and Matthew Sprung.

Cub Scout Pack 159 is sponsored by Our Lady Queen of Peace Church in Hewitt. Scouting is a great place for young boys to learn the values of citizenship, reverence and service while having a great time. Pack 159 is always ready to welcome boys in grades 1 through 5 to join.
