— Shari McAtee-Caruso began her fitness journey while attending high school in Indonesia and teaching group fitness classes.

Upon returning from Indonesia, she acquired her bachelor’s degree in exercise physiology and her master's in administration.

Her passion for exercise is what has made her successful. With more than 32 years in the fitness business she said that she has found her niche.

On Jan. 8, Town of Warwick officials joined co-owners Shari McAtee-Caruso and her husband, Jim Caruso, and their staff for the official grand opening of the Snap Fitness new location in Warwick.

The 24-hour seven-day fitness facility located at 148 Route 94 South, Fairgrounds Plaza, is designed to provide a fast and convenient facility for Warwick residents who may have had trouble finding time to workout.

“We’re an alternative to the full-service clubs,” said McAtee-Caruso, who had served as general manager of Crunch Fitness on 42nd St. in Manhattan.

She and her husband, Jim, who live in West Milford, also co-own Snap Fitness facilities in West Milford, Oak Ridge and Vernon.

McAtee-Caruso explained that Snap Fitness is easier and more affordable than larger, “big box” health clubs, offering a 24-hour a day, 365 day a year exercise alternative for busy individuals who want to stay active and fit without sacrificing time and convenience. And members have access to over 1,400 clubs worldwide.

“We offer the same state-of-the-art exercise equipment, such as free weights, circuit weights, treadmills, elipticals and bikes with personal TVs on them,” she said. “We are able to keep our membership costs low by eliminating services that a lot of on-the-go fitness club members may not need.” Memberships start at roughly $39.95 per month, with a zero enrollment fee while celebrating their opening.

Unlike most Snap Fitness facilities, the new Warwick location also offers classes.

McAtee-Caruso teaches. Zumba, body pump, and spinning, which are among some of the classes that are offered for members along with PIYO, a combination of pilates and yoga that are offered at a discount. There is also a classes only membership.

Snap Fitness remains locked at all times and is equipped with surveillance cameras and panic alarms.

“The affordability and convenience that Snap offers is something that I'm very excited to offer residents of Warwick,” said McAtee-Caruso. “and I want to invite everyone to come in and give us a try.”
