Power boat races returns to Greenwood Lake on Saturday, June 16 and Sunday, June 17.
The Township of West Milford issued a recreation permit for the event at Brown’s Point at a recent township council meeting. The races are sponsored by the Greenwood Lake Power Boat Association.
The municipal permission is needed because the event “is of an extraordinary nature,” the resolution adopted by the council states.
Director of Community Services and Recreation John Voli made application and obtained requisite approvals from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection with conditions to be met.
The resolution passed by the council allows the sponsoring organization to charge admission fees of $10 for those 12 years of age and older and $5 for children 5 to 11 years of age.
There is no charge for children 4 years of age and under. There is an additional $5 charge for anyone wanting to go into the pits.
The association must provide insurance certificates to the township and state, naming them as additional insured parties in the amount of $1,000,000 umbrella, to include $500,000 property damage and $1,000,000 personal injury.
The association must also provide insurance certificates with the township and state named as additional parties in the amount of $1,000,000 for liquor liability, which coverage includes a Hold Harmless Agreement.
The association is required by the agreement with the township to pay for any extraordinary expenses incurred by the municipality in providing CS&R, Health Department and Police Department personnel for the events.
By May 15, a notice will be sent to surrounding residents, which will include a description of activities and dates and times of race events.
The boating group was required to arrange for a traffic control plan, sufficient parking, and security and crowd control in accord with West Milford Police Chief Tim Storbeck by April 7.
The association is also required to provide portable toilets on the site that are to be emptied at the end of the events on Saturday and Sunday.
A 20 yard dumpster will be located on site in accordance with the recommendation of the CS&R director.
