On April 16, 25 of the best spellers among the fifth and sixth grade classes at Paradise Knoll Elementary School represented their classes in the school’s annual Spelling Bee.

Students were read a word, the word was used in a sentence, and then the word was repeated for them to spell. Students had to say the word, spell the word, then repeat the word they spelled. The students completed six rounds until only two spellers remained - sixth graders Leah Payne and Juliet Badaan. They then entered the “elimination round.”

During the elimination round, the students had to correctly spell a missed word and also the next word to win the competition. The two competitors battled for another nail-biting 26 rounds before Juliet successfully spelled “saffron” and “stellar” for the win at word number 27 of the elimination round and declared the 2015 Paradise Knoll Spelling Bee champion.
