| 20 Dec 2012 | 03:33

This week we Take Five with West Milford High School senior Kyle Silvestri. Kyle spends lots of his time with wrestling and tennis, but also in the phenomenal school band. A well-rounded kid for sure. Go to our Web site, westmilfordmessenger.com to read our bonus five with Kyle.

Name: Kyle Silvestri

Age: 17

School/grade: Senior at WM HS

Activity/Sport: Band/Wrestling/Tennis

1) How did you get involved with your activities?

As with all of my sports/activities, I started at a young age. My Dad signed me up for wrestling when I was five and my Mom signed me up for tennis lessons when I was five also. It helped that they had both played the sports when they were in high school.

2) Who is your biggest inspiration?

My biggest inspirations without a doubt are my parents. They started me off in a variety of sports and activities when I was young and they have stuck with me in most of my decisions and talked me out of the not so good ones and I appreciate that they somehow managed to balance out being my coaches as well as my parents. I appreciate that because I know that’s not easy to do.

3) What would most people be surprised to know about you?

People would be surprised to know that I am very musical. I am a part of many musical groups in West Milford High School. I play the baritone in the Wind Ensemble, I also play the baritone in the marching band, I sing in the Concert Choir as well as being part of the Chamber group and the new hit group The Masters Singers. Lastly, my proudest musical accomplishment is that I have been playing the piano for 13 years and have been taking lessons with Mrs. Pry for eight years now.

4) Who is your favorite teacher of all time and why?

My favorite teacher of all time hands down is Dr. McLaughlin. He is my favorite teacher because he is always fun and always ready to tell you another corny joke. Even when you are down, he can find some way to build you back up. I also look up to him as well because he has a vast knowledge in the musical field and that's what I want to do when I grow up. Also, he always gives you great advice. That’s probably why he’s a doctor.

5) What does being a Highlander mean to you?

Being a Highlander to me means trying to do as much as you can and being involved in as much as you can. Also going to support different groups such as the basketball team or the ice hockey team. But it can also mean going to other events like the art show or the band and chorus concert. It’s only four years, which is just a short time in your life, so I recommend getting the most out of it.

You are a credit to the Highlanders, Kyle! And your parents must be so proud of you. Do you know someone who should be featured here at Take Five? Send us an email at nyoffice@strausnews.com and tell us who and why. We hope to feature all the great kids in the township.
